100% UV Protection
Ultraviolet light from the invisible light spectrum is divided into three ranges: UV-A, UV-B, and UV-C rays. UV-C rays are not considered a threat because they are almost completely blocked by the Earth's ozone layer. Prolonged exposure to UV-A and UV-B radiation, however, can cause significant eye damage ranging from discomfort to long-term vision problems including cataracts. It is very important to realize that even on cloudy days, 80% of harmful UV radiation can still reach your eyes and adequate protection is crucial whenever you go outside.
All Optic Nerve and ONE by Optic Nerve lenses offer 100% UV Protection. They meet or exceed the U.S. Government and FDA ANSI Z80.3 and EN ISO 12312-1:2013 (CE) Standards for UV protection and impact resistance.
Side note: This includes our clear and lightly tinted lenses which let in more visible light, but still protect your eyes from invisible, harmful UV light.
Polarized Lens Technology
Polarized lenses have an invisible horizontal filter integrated into the lens, which is designed to eliminate reflected light (aka glare). When sunlight reflects off a surface, it becomes concentrated and even more intense. Polarized lenses filter out 99.9% of this reflected, intense glare. Polarization is recommended for bright sun and variable light conditions and the benefits are fully maximized on or around water.
Photochromatic Lens Technology
We all know the hassles of constantly changing light conditions whether on the trail or in the car. The photochromatic technology automatically darkens the lenses in sunny conditions and lightens them in shadowed or cloudy conditions in a matter of seconds. So how exactly does this happen? Photochromatic lenses are made up of trillions of organic molecules that rapidly change in structure in the presence of UV light. In bright sunlight, the molecules expand in size, darkening the lenses while in low light conditions the molecules shrink allowing more light to filter through.
Interchangeable Lens Technology
Interchangeable lenses are the tried and true solution for battling inconsistent light conditions. Smoke lenses are best for bright sun conditions, while copper lenses are best for cloudy conditions, and clear lenses are optimal for very dark/nighttime conditions.

Hydrophobic Lens Coating
All Optic Nerve polarized and premium interchangeable models include a micro-thin hydrophobic coating on the outside of the lens that repels water, dust, sweat, and oil to significantly enhance overall performance and durability and to make lens cleaning more efficient.
Anti-Reflective Lens Coating
The light that comes from behind you can bounce off the inside of your shades and reflect back into your eyes. This is why all of our Optic Nerve polarized lenses have an anti-reflective coating on the interior lens surface to eliminate this effect.
